Petroseals Rubber Membranes & Sheeting
DLR Elastomer Engineering has been at the forefront of manufacturing PVC/NBR (Poly Vinyl Chloride/ Acrylonitrile Butadiene (Nitrile) Rubber), fire retardant Neoprene and other rubber polymer products for the bulk oil, petrol, and gas tank storage industry. Floating roof storage tanks rely on the rubber coated fabric and wipers to keep volatile vapors from escaping to atmosphere and to keep rain/snow/dirt out. We supply safety and vapor stop seals, tube seals, scuff bands, fire shields, wiper seals and many other variants for the sealing between tank wall and roof.
Industries We Supply
DLR has been manufacturing Petroseals for many decades in our UK facility in Leyland, dating all the way back to the original development of these products at The Leyland & Birmingham Rubber Co Ltd in the 1940’ and 50’s. DLR is always keen to supply to new and existing customers and can accommodate all project-specific requirements anywhere in the world. We supply the sheet materials on a roll, cut to a specified width and facilitate the punching of the bolt holes as specified by the customer to suit each tank’s design. We typcially work with but not limited to companies in the following sectors:
- Tank Refurbishment Companies
- Tank Repair companies
- OEM’s
Petroseals FAQs
Petroseals are the polymeric seal system between the floating roof and tank wall, with the ability to counter any distortion in the tank wall on older tanks.
Petroseals are manufactured using PVC/NBR compound calendared and rotocured to a Nylon reinforcing fabric. In some applications the nylon is replace with glass cloth or other fire-retardant fabrics such as calcium silicate or Nomex. The fire shields are manufactured with an antistatic fire-retardant Neoprene on a similar range of fabrics.
The PVC/NBR wiper seals can be either extruded or continuously moulded in PVC/NBR or other compounds dependent on project requirements.
Tube seals are a continuous pvc/nitrile coated nylon tube that are filled with Kerosene or similar liquid to act as a gap filler between the tank wall and side of the floating roof to minimise vapour space and compensate for wall distortion.
PVC/NBR Scuff bands act as an abrasion protection layer over the tube seal to mitigate any potential damage to the tube by the tank wall.
The chlorine in the PVC provides for outdoor use. Products made from PVC/NBR are ozone resistant and weather very well. The PVC provide for better wear resistance too.
